The BSA Merit Badge Day is designed for scouts to achieve all of the requirements of two merit badges in one day, the Graphic Arts merit badge and the Pulp and Paper merit badge. During the course of the day, which runs from 8 am to 3 pm, teams of scouts will rotate between 10 stations covering every aspect of the printing and paper industries, from offset lithography and screen printing to digital design and how the paper industry manages and uses their forests. Each boy will have a chance to screen print their own shirt, run an offset press, grind pulp in a Hollander beater, make their own sheet of paper and letterpress print a card on an antique press. The day is filled with lots of hands-on activities and detailed presentations, given by industry experts and educators. The fee for the Merit Badge Day is $40 per scout and covers all of the activities to earn the two Merit Badges. Merit Badge Day at the Printing Museum is definitely a not-to-miss event for scouts in Southern California!

There have been a large number of happy Boy Scout Mothers, Fathers and Boy Scouts themselves that have participated in previous Merit Badge Days. Read some of the comments that the Scouts and their parents had to say about Boy Scout Merit Badge Day by clicking on the people talking on the left!

The Printing Museum has a special connection to the Boy Scouts: the Museum’s founder Ernie Lindner was an Eagle scout in the late 1930’s; his son and now grandson achieved Eagle scout recognition as well. Harriett Lindner, Ernie’s wife, and Ernie II, his grandson, are shown to the right at one of the events. The family tradition continues on!

The Printing Museum will be offering up to four Merit Badge Days each year. ADVANCED REGISTRATION AND PAYMENT OF $40 IS REQUIRED TO ATTEND. If you are interested in registering, please click here to go to the REGISTRATION page. We can accommodate up to 90 scouts at each event. For questions, call the Printing Museum (310-515-7166) or email [email protected].
